Every older woman I knew growing up had a container like this, I don’t know anyone that has one now.

-My mom has so so many glass jars of them. Everyone knew how to sew.. it’s sad how no one knows how these days. It was a way of life back then. (Gen X here).Ā

We always had one. You wore clothes until they wore out.
Then you cut the buttons off and saved them to replace buttons, especially shirt buttons, that wringer washers were so good at popping off, because we would get careless and forget to āfold them inā.
We saved the good parts, usually backs of dresses, pants, etc and they were used for quilt blocks or patching.
Old socks, beyond darning were used in floor mops.

I combined my Motherās sewingbox with mine.
She sewed lots of my clothes as a kid.
My biggest accomplishments are hems and buttons.
-I have one that belonged to my grandmother and I still use some of the treasures that are inside
